A Diptych by Ella Thomas
Archival acrylics on canvas
2 panels; 125mm x 175mm x 35mm each

Here a Huia and Tui dressed in garments that would have been fashionable in the late 1800’s are depicted. The rich velvety, golden sienna, and umber browns are reminiscent of early photographs and the aesthetic of portraits painted in the Victorian era. The warm tones set off the blues and greens within both manu’s plumage beautifully. Another work in my Wikitoriana series, further details can be found on the ellaQuaint blog.

This is part of a new series that further explores notions around conservation and extinction; in relation to our native taonga. The Victorian era is so appropriate to reference especially with its love of embellishment; the unusual and rare. Our manu suffered greatly because of these passing fancies.

All paintings come carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and corrugated cardboard and are delivered by track and trace courier to keep your taonga safe.

This is an original painting and will not be reproduced for mass production in any shape or form. The copyright is retained by the artist
